Welcome To Badgers Oak Veterinary Clinic
Badgers Oak Veterinary Clinic is a mixed practice based in Northiam, East Sussex (near Rye).
We are dedicated to providing high quality care for small animals, horses and farm animals across this part of the county and into Kent. We pride ourselves on being a well equipped, friendly and approachable local practice.
Unlike many of the veterinary surgeries in the area, we run our own out of hours service. This means that our clients will never have to travel to an unfamiliar surgery with a sick pet or wait for a vet they don't know.

Small Animal Services
We provide a comprehensive range of services for your cats, dogs, rabbits, and other small pets.
Vaccinations
Regular vaccinations are essential to keep your pet safe from common infectious diseases. We offer primary courses and annual boosters.
Neutering Advice
We perform routine neutering (spaying and castration) for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small mammals. This helps prevent unwanted litters and health issues later in life.
- Dogs: Spaying is best performed 6 months before the first season or 3 months after. It prevents pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection) and significantly reduces the risk of mammary cancer.
- Cats: Unless you are an experienced breeder, we strongly recommend neutering to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the strain on rescue centers.
Parasite Advice
External and internal parasite control is extremely important for the health of your pets and family. All puppies and kittens should be wormed from 2 weeks of age, then every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old, and then monthly until 6 months. Adult frequency depends on the product used. We offer a range of tablets and "spot-on" treatments.
Pet Weight Loss
Obesity in pets is a growing problem and can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and arthritis. If your pet is overweight, we can help. We offer nurse-led weight clinics to help you manage your pet's diet and exercise.
Microchipping
It is a legal requirement for all dogs over 8 weeks old to be microchipped. We also strongly recommend it for cats.
Animal Health Certificates (Pet Travel Scheme)
For travel outside of the United Kingdom, please contact us directly for the most up-to-date advice regarding Animal Health Certificate (AHC) requirements. Please check the DEFRA website before traveling and give us as much notice as possible to prepare your documentation.
Farm Animal Services
We support local farmers with a range of veterinary services, from individual animal care to herd health planning.
Worm Egg Counts
We perform in-house worm egg counts using the McMasters method to obtain an accurate count (eggs per gram). This helps determine when to worm to maximize efficacy and reduce resistance.
- Sample Drop-off: We accept faecal samples on Tuesdays and Thursdays before 1pm.
- Sheep/Goats: Please collect ten individual samples per grazing group, and we will pool them in the laboratory.
Herd Health Planning
We offer herd and flock health plans for cattle and sheep to improve productivity and welfare. Services include:
- Parasite control strategies.
- Vaccination and nutrition planning (e.g., trace element deficiencies).
- Infectious disease testing and eradication.
- TB Testing (Statutory testing services).
- Emergency Care: 24/7 coverage for calving, lambing, and sickness.
Equine Services
Our equine vets are experienced in treating horses, ponies, and donkeys. We offer ambulatory services to your stable or yard.
Vaccinations
Flu and Tetanus vaccinations are vital for your horse's health.
- Foals: Can be vaccinated from 4 months old (or 6 months if the mare was vaccinated). A second dose follows 4-8 weeks later, and a third 12 months later.
- Pregnant Mares: Should have a flu and tetanus booster 4-6 weeks prior to foaling to provide passive immunity to the foal.
Routine Care & Dentistry
We provide routine dental work, health checks, and castrations. We can also perform pre-purchase examinations.
Worm Egg Counts
We can perform worm egg counts for horses. Please bring in a faecal pellet per horse in a sealed container.
Microchips & Passports
We can identify your horse and process passport applications efficiently.

We pride ourselves on our friendly, experienced staff who are dedicated to the care of your animals.
