We are able to offer acupuncture as a complimentary or often alternative treatment to our clients. Acupuncture is very useful at alleviating pain and increasing the animals own resistance to disease. It is often successful where orthodox treatment fails, or where it is contra indicated. It must be remembered though that it is not a cure-all, and in some cases orthodox treatment may be the best option.
Veterinary acupuncture is thought to be over 2000 years old and was developed from observations by vets in ancient china. These people noted that digital pressure, applied to certain points in an animals body, relieved pain in a given area or reduced signs of general ill health. It was then found that better results were achieved if these points were penetrated with a needle.
Acupuncture is involved with the flow of energy in the body, along the channels called meridians. Needles are placed at points along these meridians.
We have had many very positive results with acupuncture, and it is very well tolerated by the vast majority of pets. If you have any queries or questions regarding acupuncture we will be happy to discuss them with you.
